From this page you can register to download the sources for the current release of X Window System technology, X11R6.4.

The X.org team need assistance to continue to support this technology. If your company builds a business from re-selling this technology please consider joining the X.org project in order to participate in and ensure the evolution of the X Window System Technology.

NOTE:

• Did you know that NASA used X11 as its primary development environment for putting pathfinder on Mars. There was a picture of it on the front page of the New York Times.
• Did you know, X11 is so good at delivering applications across networks to thin clients that we've heard of one company using it as the driver in a TV set top box.
• Did you know that X11 delivers existing application across the web so well and quickly that we've heard of two companies who have avoided 10 staff-year reimplementation efforts in Java with a 3 hour re-configuration using the R6.3 extensions to X11.
• Did you know that the LBX extensions have reduced network bandwidth for applications down to 10%. Who says X11 is too fat for the Internet?
