An Open Source Strategy for the Open Group

The Open Group sees Open Source as a key component that can help in achieve the vision of Boundarlyless Information Flow.

Our members are interested in the impact that Open Source will have on them and their business.  A group has been formed to focus on 'Open Source in the Enterprise'.

This group will focus on understanding the impact on large organizations,  the issues, challenges, and considerations.  It will also, from within the membership, develop a number of deliverables to help members understand and address these issues.

These, and other plans, are listed on the member's web

The Open Group has many areas of involvement with Open Source:

Andrew Josey is a  member of the board of the Free Standards Group -  The Open Group has funded his time and expenses for that activity

The Open Group Developed and operates the LSB Certification Program for the Free Standards Group

Brought together middleware vendors to address one of the big issues that the standards industry has faced with the "Pegasus" Open Manageability Project

The Open Group contributed open source versions of our XPG and UNIX test suites for use in Linux testing.  In fact, well over 90% of the test suites for Linux were developed by The Open Group and made freely available.

Made OpenMotif freely available on Open Source platforms

We use open source solutions for our web and e-mail servers

Open sourced the DCE code (coming Reeeeeeal Soon!!! Mail us for details).
