The University of Reading (England) celebrates its centenary in 2006. The School of Systems Engineering is at the forefront of the movement away from traditional Computer Science teaching to a more holistic view of Information Technology.

The Information Technology degree course produced its first graduates in the summer of 2005, and is focussed much more on the relationship between Information Systems and Business, rather than pure technology.

TOGAF at the University of Reading

The University of Reading was the first University in the world to incorporate TOGAF into an academic syllabus.

  • In year 2 of the 3 year undergraduate Information Technology degree course, the concept of Enterprise Architecture is introduced for the first time and used as the unifying theme to link all of the topics in e-Business.

  • In the final year of the 3 year undergraduate Information Technology degree course, students have the option of a full TOGAF 8 certification course.

  • Various MSc courses in Information Technology and Informatics include the option of a full TOGAF 8 certification course.
The TOGAF 8 certification courses offered at both undergraduate and postgraduate level are certified by The Open Group.
The courses are taught by Mike Lambert, a certified TOGAF 8 practitioner and formerly CTO of The Open Group, responsible for the development of TOGAF.
