Voice Profile for Internet Mail (VPIM)
Work Group

Mission Statement:
Establish an internationally accepted standard profile of ESMTP/MIME to allow the interexchange of voice and fax messages between voice messaging systems; ensure that this profile also allows interexchange with non-voice messaging MIME compatible e-mail systems; establish a directory service to support lookup of the routable address; and establish a defined mapping specification with other voice messaging systems.

Goals:
The Group will demonstrate how the VPIM v2 protocol allows voice and fax messages to be shared amongst disparate voice messaging systems connected within a corporate intranet or across the global Internet. This has been showcased by leading vendors at Events like EMA '96,  EMA '97, CT Expo '98 and VMA '98.

The Group is sponsoring an end user trial of VPIM systems and hopes to include a scalable directory lookup solution that supports address resolution as part of the trial.

The Group also hopes to show how generic MIME desktops can participate in VPIM messaging.
