Future of VPIM v3

After VPIM v2 has been approved by the IETF as a Proposed Standard, the continuing standardization effort will be focused on adding enhanced features to the baseline VPIM v2 functionality. These features include a directory lookup (using LDAP & X.500) that supports address resolution, capabilities (e.g., codec support) determination, better IMAP support of voice and interworking with general MIME-enabled email desktops. The latter effort is growing into a rewrite of VPIM that is now called Internet Voice Mail. See the specifications page for the most recent drafts.
