Changes in draft-ietf-vpim-vpimv2r2-01.txt
This summary highlights differences between RFC 2421 and the most current IETF draft of VPIM v2. A spreadsheet listing differences in the documents keywords, MUST, SHOULD, MAY, SHOULD NOT and MUST NOT, can be found at http://www.vpim.org.
The major changes to RFC 2421 were the deletion of vCard and ESMTP descriptions and the restructuring of section 4, Voice Message Interchange Format.
As with the previous draft 00 vCard was removed because it was causing confusion amongst implementers and slowing down the progression of the protocol.
The restructuring of section 4 had no major impacts on VPIM implementations but does make a significant improvement on the comprehension of material. Each sub section now has a SEND and RECEIVE specification which highlights protocol obligations and clarifies any ambiguities of the RFC. The "Notification Message" sections were the most heavily affected by the restructure. All details of notifications are now collaborated into their own sections as opposed to jumping back and forth like the RFC. This has an affect on the Textual Differences table because it seems like much new information was added to the draft when in actual fact is was just moved and reworded.
ESMTP commands are referenced by VPIMv2 in the appropriate section. And therefore any duplication of these commands is unnecessary as one could easily find them in the reference document. Thus their explanations were removed from the draft.
