The Open Group has officially launched the Industrial Advanced Nuclear™ Consortium (IANC), a collaborative initiative to accelerate the deployment of advanced nuclear heat and power solutions for industrial applications. The Consortium founding Members: Chevron, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, Freeport-McMoRan, Nucor, Rio Tinto, and Shell represent large industrial users of power and heat. These Members will leverage their integration and project delivery expertise to define the requirements for the application of nuclear technology to provide process heat and power for their respective industries.

The primary objectives of the Consortium include:

• Standardizing interfaces and sourcing terminology

• Adopting risk-appropriate design practices

• Developing open frameworks and business guidelines

These efforts are designed to encourage competition, lower costs, reduce regulatory and scheduling risks, and ultimately deliver diversified, dependable, and decarbonized heat and power solutions for industry.

IANC 2

The IANC is focused on standardizing the interfaces and sourcing terminology necessary to streamline the development and deployment of nuclear solutions in industrial applications. By adopting risk-appropriate design practices and open standards, the Consortium aims to reduce project costs, minimize regulatory delays, and eliminate schedule uncertainties.

IANC 3

Industrial users face growing pressure to decarbonize their operations. By leveraging safe, reliable nuclear energy, the IANC offers a path to diversify energy sources while delivering clean heat and power at scale. The open architecture approach will help create cost effective solutions that can be widely replicated across industries.

IANC 4

The IANC will work to:

  • Aggregate and amplify the demand for nuclear power in industrial settings

  • Develop industrial use cases and requirements

  • Create technical standards and business guidelines to guide deployment

These actions will catalyze a robust ecosystem capable of meeting industrial energy needs efficiently and sustainably.

With leading industrial end user companies already on board, the IANC is a growing force for change. The Consortium will be collaborating with the wider nuclear community to align permitting processes, improve integration between nuclear and industrial systems, and define business models for delivering nuclear-generated heat and power.

IANC 5

The IANC is welcoming new Members from across the ecosystem including technology providers, academia, EPCs, and government agencies. If you’re committed to advancing clean industrial energy, we invite you to learn more and get involved.
