The Open Group Publishes Open Agile Architecture™ Standard, Version 2.0

The updated standard provides structured guidance to support enterprises pursuing Agile and Digital Transformation at scale

San Francisco, CA, April 27 – The Open Group, the global vendor neutral‑ technology consortium, today announced the publication of the Open Agile Architecture™ Standard, Version 2.0, a standard of The Open Group. The updated standard addresses the need for enterprises to pursue both Digital Transformation and Agile Transformation in a coordinated and sustainable way.

It provides guidance for organizations who are seeking to evolve agility at scale while simultaneously applying digital technologies to adapt business strategy, enhance customer and employee experience, and develop competitive advantage. The standard supports enterprises in accelerating learning cycles, shortening time to‑ market, and‑ creating environments where Agile and digital capabilities continuously reinforce one another.

Version 2.0 represents a substantial evolution of the standard, reflecting new structural thinking, stronger alignment with dual transformation, and expanded guidance on organizational agility. It introduces a clearer, modular structure designed to help enterprises apply architectural thinking across the organization as a whole, rather than focusing solely on the alignment of business and IT.

Key enhancements in version 2.0 include:

  • Restructured core content: The standard has been reorganized into a clear four-part structure, aligning Agile thinking, ‑ organizational design, ways of working, and supporting techniques into one cohesive model.
  • Explicit dual transformation foundation: Version 2.0 emphasizes the need for enterprises to pursue Digital and Agile Transformation concurrently, highlighting the importance of coordinated evolution across business and technology in a complex environment.
  • Extensive community validation: The new version incorporates extensive practitioner input, strengthening the standard’s relevance, clarity, and application in real‑world enterprise environments.

“As enterprises increasingly seek to combine agility with digital innovation, clear architectural guidance becomes critical,” said Andrew Josey, VP Standards and Certification at The Open Group. “The new version of the Open Agile Architecture Standard offers clearer structure and stronger guidance to help organizations navigate the complexity of Agile at scale while delivering meaningful digital outcomes.”

Open Agile Architecture Standard, Version 2.0 complements The Open Group portfolio of open standards by addressing the architectural challenges of Agile at scale. Together, these standards support enterprises in managing complexity, enabling transformation, and delivering sustained business value.
