This was a call dedicated to general bugs.

The annual report to SC22 had been circulated to Core for comment.
Andrew took an action to produce a similar report for the PASC SEC.

* Current Business

While we agree that this sounds like a reasonable request (using a
new flag), without a reference implementation there isn't anything
for us to standardize at this time.  The discussion referenced in
bugnote:4522 raises several questions that have not been answered
in the last three years.  This bug is therefore rejected.  If an
implementation is created, please file a new bug with details of
the changes and a pointer to a reference implementation.

The standard is unclear on this issue, and no conformance distinction
can be made between alternative implementations based on this. This
is being referred to the sponsor.

Rationale:
Various aspects of asynchronous lists and job control are insufficiently
specified in the standard.

    <blockquote>it shall be matched against existing filenames and
    pathnames, as appropriate.</blockquote>
add:
    <blockquote>If directory entries for dot and dot-dot exist,
    they may be ignored.</blockquote>

On draft 2.1 page 2353 line 76205 section 2.13.3, add (at the end of item 3):

    <blockquote><small>Note: A future version of this standard may
    require that directory entries for dot and dot-dot are ignored
    (if they exist) when matching patterns against existing filenames.
    For example, when expanding <b>.*</b> the result would not
    include dot and dot-dot.</small></blockquote>
