Austin Group Minutes of the 30 September Teleconference Austin-223 Page 1 of 1 Submitted by Andrew Josey, The Open Group. October 1, 2004 Attendees Andrew Josey, The Open Group Nick Stoughton, USENIX, ISO/IEC OR Don Cragun , Sun, PASC OR Glenn Fowler, AT&T Ulrich Drepper, Red Hat ISO Status ---------------- Andrew reported that the ISO Technical Corrigenda was published on the 15 Sep 2004 (the designation is ISO/IEC 9945-2003/Cor.1-2004). Nick reported that Stephe Walli has been appointed leader of the POSIX advisory group Next Face to Face Meeting ------------------------- Andrew noted that we had not had a face to face meeting since May 2001, and we should consider holding towards the end of this year or early next year. To be worth travelling we would need an agenda of at least three full days. Topics for considerations would include open rdvk/contentious rdvk and future planning discussions and proposals. Defect Report Processing ------------------------- The group picked up on the latest batch of defect reports, which are available at the following URL: http://www.opengroup.org/austin/aardvark/latest/ XSH ERN 56 wcstol editorial error Accept XSH ERN 57 iconv prototype change Reject This was already raised in ERN 54 http://www.opengroup.org/austin/aardvark/finaltext/xshbug.txt In the 1997 edition, the system interface page and the system header page had different prototypes, and these were reviewed at that time and it was agreed to correct the synopsis to be consistent with the header. The decision was taken before to reject ERN 54 in finaltext. XSH ERN 58 inconsistenties and redundancies in description Accept XSH ERN 59 Accept (this change needs to be applied globally -- The rationale is that We have two requirements for reentrant, and only one of them applies to thread-safe, ! a+b does not imply !a ) XSH ERN 60 EINTR return for pthread_self Accept as marked below Accept do the change as proposed plus the following related change: p1079, 34119 change "these functions" -> "the pthread_setspecific function" XCU ERN 37 od description misses -v option Accept XCU ERN 38 editorial language 2.9.3.1 Accept XCU ERN 39 pathchk OPEN This should be an interpretation request, the standard is clear, the standard is inconsistent. The change proposed may not be the right change, most likely its the wording of XBD 4.6 Filename that needs change. It is believed that the intent of former .1 and .2 was that this is a constraint on the applications and not on the implementations, since applications might not work as expected if they used. Suggest changing p98 1371, to Users should not create filenames where the first character is the hyphen character (ed note, i do not think we use the term "users should", should this be "Portable applications should not.."?) Next Steps ----------- Andrew will update the aardvark reports with the latest inbound defect reports. There are a number of open action items outstanding: 1. Don Cragun Pathname Resolution proposal 2. Larry Dwyer system() and threads 3. Joerg Schilling wording for XCU ERN 1 pax The next teleconference call is scheduled for Oct 7 2004
