Provide a single standard addressing the needs of users of all
the documents being revised and supported by as much of the
overall industry as possible. Address problems discovered during
the lifetimes of the current documents. The current standards are
approaching ten years or more in age; and this is the promised
revision, whose scope is being expanded by including accepted
practise based on the contents of the Single UNIX Specification.

This PAR is contingent on the IEEE and The Open Group developing a memorandum of understanding regarding the joint project. In particular the MOU will cover copyright issues, it is expected that the resultant documents will be joint copyright. The IEEE is liasing with JTC1 upon how JTC1 can be best integrated into the project.
The PAR Copyright Release and Signature Page must be submitted by FAX or physical delivery before this PAR will be sent on for NesCom and Standards Board approval.
