Minutes of the 25 March 2010 Teleconference Austin-477 Page 1 of 1 Submitted by Andrew Josey, The Open Group. March 27 , 2010 Attendees Andrew Josey, The Open Group Don Cragun, PASC OR Mark Brown, IBM, TOG OR Nick Stoughton, USENIX, ISO/IEC OR Geoff Clare, The Open Group Eric Blake, Red Hat Apologies Ulrich Drepper, Red Hat Don reminded folks that the reaffirmation ballots on 1003.13 and 1003.26 were due to complete shortly. Subsequent status is that they both passed their ballots achieving 100% affirmative votes, on an 87% return from 41 balloters (with one abstention). Andrew reported that the migration guide to the new specification was finally available and that he would announce to the Austin Group in a separate mailing. Interpretations 173,185,187 and 188 closed on March 14th. Items 185 and 187 had no comments and can be closed as approved. Andrew closed interpretations 185 and 187. Some discussions had occurred on the mailing list on 173 and 188. We reviewed the status of these items: #0000173: Executing programs with "bad" file descriptors 0, 1 or 2 http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=173 Glen Seeds had questioned whether we should use the term "unspecified file", suggesting changing it to implementation-defined. The group felt that the wording was intentional and such a change unnecessary. The interpretation was then closed as approved. #0000188: thread-safe getenv() http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=188 Glen Seeds had raised some concerns about the wording and whether it was normative. It was agreed to place some of the wording in an informative Note. The changes were made, and as it was felt to be editorial the interpretation was then closed as approved. We picked up on the current bugs: Bug #216 Control characters must have single-byte encodings http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=216 Accepted Don had previously had an action on this, and reported he was now recommending it be accepted. It was agreed that an interpretation be created: The standard does not speak to this issue, and as such no conformance distinction can be made between alternative implementations based on this. This is being referred to the sponsor. Rationale: Existing practice, as described by the Submitter. Notes to the Editor (not part of this interpretation): Make the changes suggested by the Submitter. Bug #217: The "single subshell" rule for $(( is not sufficient Accept as marked http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=217 Geoff had produced a revised proposal (see bugnote 398) It was agreed to accept as marked in that proposal, and that this would need an interpretation: The standard is unclear on this issue, and no conformance distinction can be made between alternative implementations based on this. This is being referred to the sponsor. Make the change proposed in Note: 0000398 Bug #196: improved getsubopt example OPEN http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=196 We revisited Bug 196. This item remains OPEN. Action:Eric agreed to take an action to reword. Bug #221: poor wording about even quotes in double quoted parameter expansion Accepted as marked http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=221 A revised proposal had been written (see bugnote 399). An interpretation is required. The standard is unclear on this issue, and no conformance distinction can be made between alternative implementations based on this. This is being referred to the sponsor. Make the changes suggested in bugnote: 399 Bug #225: ENXIO and 'may fail' Accepted http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=225 This was accepted, and an interpretation is required. Interpretation response The standard states the current fseek() and fseeko() error conditions , and conforming implementations must conform to this. However, concerns have been raised about this which are being referred to the sponsor. Notes to the Editor (not part of this interpretation): Make change suggested by Submitter. This interpretation should be considered in tandem with 0000218 Action: Andrew, to look at the latest interpretations that are pending and start a new 30 day review batch We then discussed email on the reflector. On the question about the awk grammar it was suggested that Andrew contact Donn Terry. Action: Andrew contact Donn Terry re: awk grammer (CLOSED) Action: Nick to file awk grammar question as a mantis request (CLOSED, see bug 226) Next Steps ---------- The next call will be on April 8 at 16:00 UK time/08:00 Pacific to carry on with the defect reports http://austingroupbugs.net See the calendar for the list of dialup numbers.
