Minutes of the 1 July 2010 Teleconference Austin-487 Page 1 of 1 Submitted by Andrew Josey, The Open Group. July 3 , 2010 Attendees Andrew Josey, The Open Group Don Cragun, PASC OR Mark Brown, IBM, TOG OR Geoff Clare, The Open Group Nick Stoughton, USENIX, ISO/IEC OR Eric Blake, Red Hat Ulrich Drepper, Red Hat * Old Business We are leaving bugs 247 and 249 open for now as part of the strange filename handling issue. Geoff has produced a list of the Issue 6 ERNs that need to have interpretations , and they are progressing. We still have some that need to be processed: XSHbug2 #243-246 inc, and # 250 Action: Mark volunteered to pick these up and progress them Bug 0000268: trap with no arguments Accepted This was Issue 6 xcubug2.txt ERN 182 . Geoff asked for this to be discussed as he did not agree with the proposed interpretation. It was agreed that the interpretation should be that the standard is silent on this matter. Bug 0000270: potential problem with unlinkat() O_SEARCH requirements OPEN The group felt there is not an issue here : The caller first has to get a file descriptor opened with O_SEARCH permission. To get this the same privileges as before are needed for a successful open call. Only once you have the descriptor the tests are relaxed. This is the same for all *at functions. The group does not see where there is a security problem since getting a file descriptor with the appropriate permission and possibly passing it on is an explicit act. It was agreed to leave the item open to allow the submitter to respond with more information. This will be discussed again at the next meeting. Bug 0000274: O_EXEC and O_SEARCH equal values Accepted We then returned to the discussion on handling strange filenames. A lengthy discussion followed. Action: Eric to submit a new aardvark for open() and readdir() normalizing strings. Next Steps ---------- The next call will be on July 29 at 16:00 UK time/08:00 Pacific and will continue on aardvark processing, and then if time allows some further discussion on the topic of unusual (non-portable) filenames. http://austingroupbugs.net See the calendar for the list of dialup numbers.
