Minutes of the 23 Sep 2010 Teleconference Austin-498 Page 1 of 1 Submitted by Andrew Josey, The Open Group. September 24 , 2010 Attendees Andrew Josey, The Open Group Don Cragun, PASC OR Nick Stoughton, USENIX, ISO/IEC OR Eric Blake, Red Hat Mark Brown, IBM, TOG OR Geoff Clare, The Open Group Keld Simonsen, ISO/IEC Alternate OR * SC22 Status Keld had joined the meeting to report on the recent SC22 meeting he had attended in Toronto. SC22 has some confusion about the status of the Austin Group. Nick and Keld will take an action to contact the SC22 chair to clarify the status. * Old Business An open action is to identify Issue 7 interpretations with non controversial changes. Geoff has completed about half of these so far. There are about 30 that remain to process. Don volunteered to take on 10 of these. Geoff will send a list to Don. Others who want to volunteer should contact Geoff. * We picked up on regular Bug processing Bug 0000249: Add standard support for $'...' in shell OPEN http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=249 Don agreed to take an action to propose the changes to address supporting \u and \U. Bug 0000302: Changes needed to account for uselocale() Accepted http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=302 An interpretation is required. It was agreed to tag this item as a TC1-2008 candidate. Interpretation response The standard is unclear on this issue, and no conformance distinction can be made between alternative implementations based on this. This is being referred to the sponsor. Rationale: These changes were overlooked during the revision when per-thread locales were added. Notes to the Editor (not part of this interpretation): See the Desired Action (of the original submission) Bug 0000306: utimensat() missing EINVAL error Accepted http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=306 It was agreed that no interpretation is required, and that this should be tagged as a TC1-2008 candidate. Bug 0000307: O_CREAT with O_SEARCH Accepted as marked http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=307 It was agreed that no interpretation is required and that this should be tagged as a TC1-2008 candidate. Add the following text to the end of the first paragraph of RATIONALE at the end of P1385, L45427: "Not all combinations of flags make sense. For example, using O_SEARCH | O_CREAT will successfully open a pre-existing directory for searching, but if there is no existing file by that name, then it is unspecified whether a regular file will be created. Likewise, if a non-directory file descriptor is successfully returned, it is unspecified whether that descriptor will have execute permissions as if by O_EXEC (note that it is unspecified whether O_EXEC and O_SEARCH have the same value)." And then move the entire paragraph from RATIONALE to APPLICATION USAGE after P1385, L45424. Next Steps ---------- The next call will be on October 7th at 16:00 UK time/08:00 Pacific and will continue processing defect reports. http://austingroupbugs.net See the calendar for the list of dialup numbers.
