Bug 0000568: "current characters" should be "previous characters" in rules 2 and 3 Accepted http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=568 This item is tagged for TC2-2008 Bug 0000569: Two omissions in the getdelim() description Accepted as Marked http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=569 This item is tagged for TC2-2008 An interpretation is required Interpretation response: The standard does not speak to this issue, and as such no conformance distinction can be made between alternative implementations based on this. This is being referred to the sponsor. Rationale: We believe that the changes described here already match existing practice and describe what was originally intended. Notes to the Editor (not part of this interpretation): Make the changes suggested in the Desired Action. Bug: 0000570: getdelim() EOVERFLOW does not count the delimiter Accepted as Marked http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=570 This item is tagged for TC2-2008 An interpretation is required Interpretation response: The standard states the error in terms of characters, and conforming implementations must conform to this. However, concerns have been raised about this which are being referred to the sponsor. Rationale: We believe that the changes described here already match existing practice and describe what was originally intended. Notes to the Editor (not part of this interpretation): Make the changes suggested in the Desired Action. Bug 0000571: getdelim() end-of-file behaviour needs clarifying Accepted as Marked http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=571 This item is tagged for TC2-2008 An interpretation is required Interpretation response: The standard does not speak to this issue, and as such no conformance distinction can be made between alternative implementations based on this. This is being referred to the sponsor. Rationale: We believe that this has always been the expected behavior and that existing implementations already behave as suggested. Notes to the Editor (not part of this interpretation): Make the changes suggested in the Desired Action. Bug 0000572: dirfd() ENOTSUP can never happen Accepted as Marked http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=572 This item is tagged for TC2-2008 An interpretation is required Interpretation response The standard states that implementations need not set errno, and conforming implementations must conform to this. However, concerns have been raised about this which are being referred to the sponsor. Rationale: All implementations must support a file descriptor referring to a directory, even if that descriptor is not used by readdir(). Furthermore, failure of dirfd() without setting errno is not useful to applications. Notes to the Editor (not part of this interpretation): See Desired Action Bug 0000508: Add ptsname_r Accepted as Marked http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=508 This item is tagged for Issue 8. As described in the Desired Action, with the final "Optionally" required (i.e. add both ptsname() and ptsname_r() to the list of cancellation points). Bug 0000373: make should allow dash in macro names Accepted http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=373 This item is tagged for Issue 8 As a side discussion on 373 there was a discussion about why '+' is not in the portable filename character set. We think it is because it was not allowed in 8.3 filenames on FAT file systems, and the feeling is that these days 8.3 filenames are no longer relevant as everyone uses long names (vfat) on FAT file systems. Joerg agreed to take an action to file a mantis bug requesting that '+' be added to the portable filename character set. We looked at 374 briefly at the end of the call and noted that the related 526 has been resolved, so we should be able to resolve this one now as well. Next Steps ---------- The next call is on June 14 and will continue processing defect reports. This call will be for the regular 90 minutes. http://austingroupbugs.net See the calendar for the list of dialup numbers. An IRC channel will be available for the meeting irc://irc.freenode.org/austingroupbugs
