There were two parts to the discussion: One part concerned potential difficulty in implementing any proposal where printf() has to use the value of one argument to determine what type to fetch for another argument, when the argument numbers are specified in the format string (using number-dollar). It was agreed that any proposed addition would need to be tried in at least one open source printf() implementation before it could be approved for inclusion in the standard. The other part of the discussion concerned Eric's "z**" proposal and possible alternatives. Eric sent some ideas to the mailing list during the meeting. Bug 0000600: asa obsolete OPEN It was felt that this had probably been misfiled against 2008-TC1 and should have been against Issue 7. However, we will leave this until next week when we will resolve all the 2008-TC1 bugs. Bug 0000599: Reserved "no thread" value for pthread_t OPEN The question was raised as to whether other opaque types such as locale_t should receive similar treatment. Eric added a note to the bug. Next Steps ---------- The next call is on August 22 and will start with the TC1 ballot review then continue processing defect reports. This call will be for the regular 90 minutes. http://austingroupbugs.net See the calendar for the list of dialup numbers.
