The Open Group Amsterdam Summit 2025 Energistics® Consortium Members' Meeting

The Energistics Consortium held the following sessions:

  • Monday, May 19 Plenary - open to non-members
  • Tuesday, May 20, Energistics members attended the OSDU® Forum sessions
  • Wednesday, May 21, WITSML Technical Working Group Meeting
  • Thursday, May 22, Energistics Business Working Group Meeting (Focus on WITSML)

Each of the three Energistics-run sessions had about 30 engaged attendees. The plenary day included a feature presentation from TotalEnergies, who are newly re-engaged with WITSML at this meeting, on how they use WITSML. The meeting included a brainstorming session of industry challenges, which served as the topics for the Operators Panel discussion, which featured participants from Aker BP, Chevron, Equinor, and TotalEnergies.

The highest priority issues discussed included:

  • Web API (for at least WITSML/Drilling); this included a follow-up conversation in the WITSML Tech WG meeting
  • Data quality and supporting calibration information
  • Integration and interoperability (within Energistics and with OSDU)

Additionally, the plenary day featured brief project overviews for key projects in process, including a new version of PWLS, the new DataWorkOrder object, and Certification.

The WITSML Technical Meeting saw a deeper dive into some of those projects and the introduction of a possible future project around data quality. Additional attendees included sub-contractors from Equinor’s real-time operations center, which provided some operational insights and a younger perspective on technology and solutions.

On the final day of the Summit, the Business Team met and had some candid discussions about priorities, challenges, and improved processes for moving forward. One exercise included looking at the projects that were discussed/proposed and creating a 1-sentence value statement to answer the question “Why should we do this?”. A second session took a closer look at the particular projects and work proposal to start a roadmap and prioritize the projects.

The closing session discussed whether the community should develop a data quality standard for WITSML. The members agreed they will meet to further discuss the issue, and they will update the Business Team with progress by the end of August 2025.
