1 - Header
The Header section forms a banner on each page within a Plato site
, including logo,name and
by-line for the site. It can be customized for a site by the site administrator.
A number of examples follow:
Example 1 -- The InternetConnect Software Consortium
(http://www.opengroup.org/icsc/
Example 2 -- The Hotel Technology Next Generation
Example 3 -- The Jericho Forum (http://www.opengroup.org/jericho/)
2 - Navigation Bar
This is a panel for each plato site to aid navigation. It typically contains:
- An optional logo (gif or jpeg file)
- The userid of the user logged in
- The access level the user is logged in at
- Links to other associated pages
The Navigation bar can be customized by the site
administrator, except that the log in information, and levels are automatically generated by the system depending on the user's status.
The following
items can be inserted: a link to a page to be referenced from the
navigation bar, a URL, or a subheading. Each can have a
Horizontal Rule (HR) or a blank line before or after it. The
sequence of the items if determined by the Sort Order which is a positive
integer, increasing in the downward direction. Items in the
navigation bar can be associated with a particular user level. It
is also possible to include a graphic in the navigation bar.

3 - Footer
This is a static field for each plato site that
can contain customized text. Typically this might contain a
contacts link.
Example 7 -- ICSC Footer
Example 8 -- HTNG Footer
4 - Breadcrumbs
The breadcrumbs section provides a schematic on every screen
that lets you know where you are and where you've been. Any of the 'steps' can be clicked on and you'll be taken back to that
particular location, rather than having to back up page by page.
For example:
You
are here: Home > Services
to Consortia > Plato User Guide Part 2
5 - Body
The body of the Home
Page of a Plato site is divided into two sections:
-
Introductory Text
-
Dynamic Text
Body - Introductory Text
The Introductory Text is added or amended by the client
administrator, save that the bread crumbs ("You are Here") are automatically generated by
the system. The system provides for a parent site (name and URL),
and text which is visible at all levels (public and private). There
is also provision for a footer visible for all levels. In addition,
the name plus some introductory text can be supplied for each level.
A number of examples follow:
Example 9 -- The InternetConnect Software Consortium Introductory Text
Example 10 -- The Jericho Forum Introductory Text
Body - Dynamic Content
The dynamic content in the body section is intended to provide features based around a set of 'panes' each providing the ability to work with different
items. These can include:
On the Home Page, only the most recent additions to these sections are
displayed.
The Dynamic Content can be set by entering the numbers (if any)
of items set for display. If a particular item has the display count set to zero then no items of that type are displayed. Items include news, events, emails, polls, documents, glossary items, actions and review documents.
Example 11 -- ICSC Dynamic Content
Full Listing Page
By clicking on the title bar of any of the panes on the Home Page, you are taken to a
screen that displays a more comprehensive list.

the Home Page, or on an item on the Full Listing Page, the user can access the details of the item selected.
