Access Levels

In order to gain full access to a plato web site, you need to be logged in. If you are not logged in, you will only be able to view items which are marked as 'Public', if any exist. Depending on the organizational structure, you may not be able to follow all links as they may be subject to access control which do not allow you access to specific items or area of the site.

Access to the other access levels is controlled by passwords which are maintained by The Open Group.

There are three categories of access level: Public, Read only and Update . The minimum requirement is for an Update level - but any other combination of levels can be set up by the maintainer. Any item can have its visibility set so that it can only be seen by a particular level, and the levels above.

The possible access levels available are:

Public

At this level you will only be able to view items that have been entered on to the plato system as for public view. The user will only be able to view information and will not be able to add or update.

Read Level

The Read Access levels (often called Member and Forum levels) give read only access to the items.

To log in at a read only level a pop up box should appear on your browser asking you to enter your user name and passwordand then press the 'SUBMIT' key. The system will then give you the appropriate access privileges.

Update Level

At this level (often called Working Group Level) the user has the ability to not only view the entries but also to add, amend and delete current ones. Access is again granted according the the user name and password that you entered.
