This FAQ is to help explain the Message Size Limit control feature within the Sophocles Mail Manager .

What is Message Size Limit control for ?
Message Size Limit control is a List Maintainer feature that allows control over the maximum size posting allowed to a list.
What are the settings for Message Size Limit control?
  1. 512K (the default).The default maximum message size for a list is 512K.
  2. Other values . A range of allowable message sizes is from 512K through to 32MB.
How do I set the Message Size Limit for a list ?
The Message Size level can either be set when a list is created, or when updating a list.
What happens when a message is posted to a list that exceeds the maximum message size?
The message is rejected by the list server. An error message is sent immediately to the originator with the Subject containing the listname and the size exceeded, for example:
 
Subject:Sorry, message size for exlist-exploder-l is max.: 512 kbytes!
 
In the message being returned the top of the body states
************************************************************************
Diagnostic from the mail system:
 
The mail message exceeds the maximum size allowed for messages.
This message was not delivered to the mailing list.
************************************************************************
