Introducing our 500th Membership!

Success of vendor-neutral consortium marked by significant member milestone

Today The Open Group, the vendor-neutral global IT consortium, has announced that the Peruvian university Universidad Continental has become its 500th membership.

This marks an important milestone for both The Open Group and the industry more broadly. This continued interest in open standards demonstrates what organizations are looking to achieve in the current market, such as breaking down information siloes, increasing transparency, and establishing best practices for dealing with the digital economy and the convergence of new technologies.

The Open Group’s 500 organizational memberships are drawn from 41 countries and cover the entire breadth of the IT community, including vendors, end users, integrators, consultants, government entities and academic institutions. By participating in Forums and Work Groups, The Open Group’s members help to shape the future of enterprise integration by bringing standards and certifications to both the global IT community and vertical industries.

The Open Group has welcomed many other significant milestones, including:

  • The 40th anniversary of the Single UNIX® system
  • The rapid growth of certification programs such TOGAF® 9 which has reached over 47,000 certifications in more than 120 countries
  • The ArchiMate® Certification for People program, which has more than 1,000 individual certifications

Allen Brown, President and CEO, The Open Group, commented on the news: “I’m pleased to announce that we have joined the ranks of those that can mark a milestone of 500. We’re delighted to welcome Universidad Continental to The Open Group, which has the distinction of being our 500th membership. As a consortia, The Open Group would be nothing without its members and I’m incredibly proud of the progress we have made collectively in recent years. As we continue to create standards that touch every part of the industry—from Enterprise Architecture to security, IT management, Open Platform 3.0™, IT4IT™, the supply chain and embedded systems—we look forward to the continued support of our members and to many future milestones.”

“In becoming the first university member of The Open Group in both Peru and South America we hope to develop a better understanding of Enterprise Architecture throughout the academic community. Our membership also represents an opportunity to affect change in technology management models across the country,” said Luis Flores Cisneros, Academic Director of the Faculty of Business Engineering, Universidad Continental. “Being the 500th membership illustrates that we are joining a growing organization truly committed to the global development of open standards.”
