Architecture Forum Members' Meetings: TOGAF® Workshop

Tuesday, April 26

Objective of Meeting

The main goal of the meeting was to present and discuss a real case application of EA as a practice and the TOGAF standard as an EA framework. The case was a joint presentation between Huawei and the customer organization Vodafone, along with TMForum representatives.

The case presented was:

Combining the TOGAF standard and Customer Experience to drive transformation of Digital Service Providers in an agile context on cloud infrastructure: the omnichannel case

Summary

The Forum Director introduced the presenters and the agenda for the meeting. Mike Lambert as Forum chair welcomed the audience and asked speakers to present themselves.

The case was presented and explained by Huawei, Vodafone, and TMForum representatives as an example of EA applied to the Telco industry using a Digital Customer Experience-oriented approach using the TOGAF standard as a reference standard and the TMForum Catalyst methodology.

The presentation was organized to deliver an initial context about the main drivers for the project realization and also to explain the TMForum Catalyst practice and goals. Then speakers referred to the main business motivation towards omnichannel and how that was refined using the TOGAF ADM as the reference process (Preliminary and Architecture Vision). After the vision and context assessment, the next steps were the development of the Business Architecture-led methodology, centered on Customer Experience with a solution based on agile development leveraging the cloud environment. The speakers explained the stakeholder assessment, value streams, and capability map models starting with the strategy and business and going all the way through the applications and infrastructure.

After the presentation, there was a Q&A session in which attendees shared their experiences about the case and also their own experience in the field.

Attendees delivered questions and raised their concerns with the speakers about how the TOGAF standard can be applied to solve some of the most relevant challenges across different industries such as digital trends, agile methodologies, and business transformation and innovation.

Finally, some conclusions and final recommendations were delivered and ratified by members. Actions for the Forum were also recorded.
