Forum: The Open Group FACE® Consortium

    Country: UK

    Membership Level: Associate Membership

    Q. How long have you been involved with The Open Group?

Originally involved with AdaCore in the early days of the FACE Consortium from around 2012, and now leading Rapita System’s participation in the FACE Consortium.

    Q. What do you do, and how long have you been doing it?

I am Chief Commercial Officer at Rapita Systems and my responsibilities include aligning the product, marketing and sales teams for our Go-To-Market strategies in the different regional and vertical markets we operate in. Rapita Systems was founded in 2004 and provides on-target software verification tools and product related services globally to the embedded aerospace electronics industries. Our solutions help to increase software quality, deliver evidence to meet safety and certification objectives and reduce project costs.

    Q. Why did your organization become a Member of The Open Group FACE Consortium and what does/will your involvement look like?

The FACE Consortium is an important initiative in the Mil-Aero industry and as such is a priority and focus for Rapita Systems. A number of our US and UK customers have adopted the standard and as such we want to continue to support them in their avionics software verification and certification activities.

    Q. How has/will membership in The Open Group benefit you, your organization, and the industry at large?

Understanding the principles behind the FACE Technical Standard has allowed us to align our technologies to the requirements customers have asked for. Joining associated WGs have allowed us to share our expertise and experience in verifying software to other standards such as DO-178C. The promise and application of the FACE Technical Standard is clearly attractive to the DoD and it’s great to see other countries now involved.

    Q. Why is it important for other organizations to join The Open Group?

I’m a big believer in like-minded companies working collectively together to better the art of the industry. Fortunately, there are more and more examples of community-driven initiatives taking place.

    Q. What are your hobbies?

I’m an avid sports fan and have been known to even participate in some! As I grow older, I enjoy following grass-roots teams. I have travelled extensively and very much enjoy discovering new places, new people, and new cultures.

    Q. What book are you currently reading?

    The Figurine by Victoria Hislop.

    Q. What social networks do you belong to?

LinkedIn and Reddit professionally. I also tend to use WhatsApp groups for personal use.

    Q. Any last thoughts?

Collaborating as part of The Open Group is also a fantastic Forum to discuss new technological challenges facing the industry. The certification applicant for a FACE conformant system running on a multicore processor will need to meet either civilian flight certification guidelines (such as DO-178C, DO-297, and AC 20-193) and/or military airworthiness guidance (such as the augmented MCP requirements for MIL-HDBK-516C). Conformance to the FACE Technical Standard in itself does not ensure that these standards are met and we welcome the opportunity contribute and enable FACE to provide more detailed advice on which activities and artifacts from the FACE Consortium may contribute to flight certification evidence for standards such as DO-178C and MIL-HDBK-516C.
