Bio: Shawn Reese is a Sr Lead Engineer for Booz Allen Hamilton, helping to drive Digital Engineering transformation focused on Model Based Systems Engineering for System of Systems (SoS) and sensing platforms. Shawn has 26 years of experience performing Digital Engineering and Open Systems Architecture research and development for Navy, Air Force, and Army sensor and mission systems, and is a previous Chair and Vice Chair of the Sensor Open Systems Architecture ™ (SOSA) Architecture Standing Committee.

Q. How long have you been involved with The Open Group?
I have been involved with The Open Group since the inception of the SOSA Consortium in 2016.
Q. What do you do, and how long have you been doing it?
I have been developing open architecture systems for 26 years, utilizing software modeling with UML in the late ‘90s and using SysML for system engineering since 2010.
Q. Why did your organization become a Member of The Open Group SOSA Forum and what does/will your involvement look like?
As a trusted integrator, Booz Allen provides our clients with firsthand knowledge and expertise to incorporate SOSA-aligned and eventually SOSA-conformant products into their system designs and baselines. I have chaired and participated in many committees over the years and Booz Allen will continue to work alongside our SOSA colleagues to develop a successful and game-changing SOSA Technical Standard.
Q. How has/will membership in The Open Group benefit you, your organization, and the industry at large?
Membership has many benefits, beginning with increasing the capabilities of sensor systems via SOSA interoperability, modularity, and portability attributes. Networking with clients and other members also provides teaming opportunities to meet our business needs and SOSA membership and participation indicates that Booz Allen has accumulated valuable knowledge that is supportive of our client objectives. Finally, the SOSA vision of expanding the manufacturing vendor base opens growth areas for members.
Q. Why is it important for other organizations to join The Open Group?
The Open Group is a member driven consortium that thrives on new ideas and requires participation to fulfill them. Members are welcome to observe and steer the SOSA Technical Standard development. Hands-on help is always needed and appreciated. It takes many skills to make SOSA successful so please join in!

Hiking, kayaking, traveling, and help others with handyman projects.
