  • CEO, ATSI S.A.

Q: How long have you been involved with The Open Group?

For many years I have been dealing with the problems regarding IT project management, enterprise processes optimization, software systems and architectures development, and IT competences identification and assessment.

When seeking for the best solution, I found that The Open Group solutions were usually most valuable to me.

    Q. What do you do, and how long have you been doing it?

After finishing my studies, I’ve been involved in teaching graduate students at AGH University of Science and Technology. Currently, I teach IT project management, Enterprise Business Modeling, and Cloud Computing.

I’ve been leading a postgraduate study on IT project management for 5 years.

For 15 years I’ve been the CEO of ATSI S.A., a software development company that develops distributed software systems.

Q: Why did your organization become a member and what does your involvement look like? What Forum(s) or Work Group(s) did join?

The IT world is changing significantly. In the software systems development field, the main challenge is to use advanced technology and simultaneously benefit from the functionalities of existing systems. That is why on the one hand we intend to focus and integrate new software solutions defined by the Open Platform 3.0 Forum of The Open Group and, on the other hand, we must make use of existing solutions that have a substantial business value.

At the moment we are the silver member of the Open Platform 3.0 Forum and focus on the vision of that forum. Still, we have a big interest in, for example, ArchiMate, which enables modelling enterprise architectures to make them understandable by stakeholders by using appropriate viewpoints, or TOGAF, which gives a reference basis for developing architecture governance at our company.

Q: How has membership in The Open Group benefited you, your organization and the industry at large?

The main benefit is the knowledge of the mainstream. Our new ideas will be often referenced to solutions proposed by The Open Group. Basing on our own experience, we expect to make better architectural decisions, increase architectural competences and maturity of architecture governance. Using our own ORRCA methodology of architecture development and governance, we will be good positioned in the market.

Q: What contributions do you hope to bring to The Open Group?

We have a background and approach that is very practical , yet university-based. That is why we can contribute to verification and validation of The Open Group solutions. It would be interesting to make an agile and scalable adaptation of TOGAF for some software development companies.

Q: Why is it important for other organizations to join The Open Group?

The software development world is changing dynamically. It is important to base the business on stable solutions, which are offered by The Open Group. It is easier to develop new verified proposals if they are based on such solutions.

    Q: What are your hobbies?

Dancing Argentine tango, Cuban salsa and bachata. I was inspired in Brazil when one evening I saw that almost all people of a small town near Fortaleza were dancing. Besides, according to Richard Powers (http://socialdance.stanford.edu/syllabi/smarter.htm), dancing makes you smarter and brings health benefits as it reduces stress and increases serotonin level.

Q: What book are you currently reading?

I’m concentrating now mainly on professional books about project management and software architecture.

    Q. What social networks do you belong to?

    LinkedIn

    Q: Any last thoughts?

A few statements of ATSI S.A. software architects:

    “Integration over creation”

“Maximizing software common part doesn’t mean minimizing development effort”
