SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 20, 2010 – The Open Group today announced a special service-oriented architecture (SOA) program track at The Open Group Conference Seattle 2010, to be held on February 1-5, 2010 at the Grand Hyatt Seattle, that will explore the future of SOA while consolidating the skill set of today’s SOA practitioners. In addition to presentations given by industry thought-leaders and practitioners, attendees can expand their skill set by participating in the new Open Group SOA tutorial series prepared by The Open Group SOA Work Group and a special co-located, post-conference SOA workshop from SOASchool.com™.
The Conference Presentations
The program features a keynote on “Next Generation of SOA” by Thomas Erl, best-selling SOA author and founding member of the SOA Manifesto, plus presentations from noteworthy SOA practitioners including Tony Carrato, worldwide chief operations architect, EIS SOA Advanced Technology at IBM, Mats Gejnevall, global enterprise architect at Capgemini Sweden, Steve Bennett, director of Grid Platform Solutions at Oracle, and Heather Krieger,SOA standards architect and strategist at IBM. Ahmad Yaghoobi,associate technical fellow at Boeing Company, and Kay Sampaongern, software architect at Boeing, will describe their practical experience of using SOA to meet the business needs of a major international corporation.
The Open Group SOA Tutorial Series
To sharpen their skills, SOA practitioners will be able to take advantage of new tutorials prepared by The Open Group SOA Work Group. These tutorials were developed to accompany the various Open Group SOA standards, models and publications, with the aim of providing a clear and simple introduction to SOA and SOA standards. Each tutorial is designed to build on the previous ones, with the content becoming increasingly technical as the series progresses. The goal is for attendees to follow the series just as far as it fits with their interests and responsibilities. The Open Group SOA tutorials offered in Seattle will cover the impact of SOA on business, assessing SOA maturity, SOA governance, SOA reference architecture, and using TOGAF™ for SOA.
The Post-Conference SOASchool.com Workshop
The post-conference SOASchool.com™ workshop features courses from the internationally recognized SOA Certified Professional program. It will supplement the conference program with more intensive and detailed material for SOA practitioners. The first workshop day will delve into the service-oriented architectural model and the service-orientation design paradigm and establish the unique characteristics and dynamics that constitute service-oriented solution logic. The second day will provide an in-depth exploration of service-orientation and service-oriented architecture from a design patterns perspective, including coverage of compound patterns and related industry technologies.
