The Open Group FACE™ Consortium Momentum Continues with Army TIM Event

Companies to demonstrate FACE certified products in Alabama

San Francisco, CA – August 28, 2018 -The Open Group FACE™ (Future Airborne Capability Environment) Consortium is pleased to announce the next installment in its series of Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs). The US Army FACE™ TIM, sponsored by Wind River, will be held on September 18, 2018 at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, AL.

This event follows the successful NAVAIR FACE™ TIM held in October 2017. It is another key milestone in the momentum of major organizations achieving FACE Conformance, and the procurement pull from the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, and U.S. Navy over the past couple of years.

The event in Huntsville, Alabama presents another opportunity for the FACE Consortium members to showcase their efforts toward developing FACE applications for new war-fighting capabilities for the services. The target audience is the Army community, but other customer communities are invited to attend, and previous events have seen hundreds of Army, Navy, and Air Force attendees.

The line-up of speakers at this event include a keynote from Philomena Zimmerman, Deputy Director of Engineering Tools and Environments, Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, Systems Engineering and an opening address from Brigadier General Thomas H. Todd III, U.S. Army, Program Executive Officer, Aviation.

Attendees will also hear presentations from industry experts and government representatives - including the U.S. Army and the United States Department of Defense - demonstrating FACE certified products, products aligned to the FACETechnical Standard and papers on using the FACE Technical Standard and business practices.

Brigadier General Thomas H. Todd III, U.S. Army, Program Executive Officer, Aviation said, "I'm excited that my organization is hosting the next FACE Technical Interchange Meeting this September. The FACE Technical Standard and supporting ecosystem is a critical component of Army Aviation's strategy for moving to open systems architectures in accordance with Congressional and DoD mandates. This TIM is a great opportunity for industry and our sister services to share, collaborate, and advance open system approaches for aviation weapons systems. I look forward to seeing a good turnout."

The FACE Consortium is a government and industry partnership formed to define an open avionics environment for all military airborne platform types. It has since grown into an aviation-focused professional group made up of industry suppliers, customers, and users. It provides a vendor-neutral forum for industry and government to work together to develop and consolidate the open standards, best practices, guidance documents, and business strategy.  These objectives promote acquisition of affordable software systems, innovation, rapid integration of portable capabilities across global defense programs, and higher efficiency to deploy capabilities.

Judy Cerenzia, The Open Group FACE Consortium Director, said, “This upcoming TIM is a great opportunity to experience first-hand how several “competi-mates” in the avionics software community are now collaborating to demonstrate FACE software. This proves that using the FACE approach of a technical standard and business strategy to promote innovation and rapid integration of portable capabilities, across multiple defense programs, is achievable.”

The event will run throughout the day, with over 40 exhibitor organizations and over 12 technical papers presented from both government and industry that are aligned with the FACE Technical Standard.
