San Francisco 2016: Proceedings - OTTF

The Open Group Trusted Technology Forum (OTTF)

(Monday, January 25)

Objective of Meeting

The objective of this meeting was to complete the Outreach Strategy for each of the major focus areas in the OTTF, which were an outcome of our Baltimore event brainstorming sessions and our follow-on virtual half-day meeting. Each focus area is divided into two sections:

  • Deliverables and Milestones
  • Outreach Strategy

The Deliverables and Milestones section is basically what we are delivering and when – those sections were essentially complete – and were further detailed from a timing perspective in the project plan. The Outreach Strategy section is about the outreach activities we have planned to promote those particular deliverables. The goal was (for each of the major focus areas) to complete the following subcategories of the Outreach Strategy:

  • Objectives
  • Activities and Timelines
  • Actions and Issues, and to have names associated with the Actions

Summary

On Monday morning, the agenda was reviewed, and also the project plan as it relates to the OTTF focus areas.

The group reviewed and refined the Outreach Strategy for the major OTTF focus areas, which resulted in some additional attention to messaging/talking points and target constituents for major outreach events and for one-to-one briefings that are scheduled for this next quarter including:

  • The Open Group webinar
  • A podcast
  • A radio spot
  • The RSA Conference where the OTTF has two peer-to-peer presentations and a booth
  • The Open Group event in London in April 2016

The content of the strategy slides was revised and re-cast in a work document that was distributed to the GOSH Workstream and the Steering Committee.

On Monday afternoon, there were two separate sessions:

  • The Open Track on Risk, Dependability, and Trusted Technology
  • Continuation of the OTTF Strategy discussion that was started on Monday Morning

The Open Track included a presentation from Edna Conway, Cisco’s Chief Security Officer for its Global Value Chain. During Edna’s presentation she provided a summary of a Cisco case study which she did for NIST on some of Cisco’s supply chain challenges and best practices, which can be found on the NIST website. Edna's presentation can be found here.

Bill O’Donnell, Senior Technical Staff Member, IBM Systems Middleware Chief Security Architect and Chief Security Compliance Officer IBM presented an overview of the threat landscape related to product integrity and supply chain security and provided some insight into why IBM chose to become an Open Trusted Technology Provider™ by becoming accredited through the O-TTPS Accreditation Program. Bill's presentation can be found here. The complete IBM Case Study is freely available here.

One of the main highlights of the Open Track was when Steve Nunn presented an Outstanding Contribution Award to Edna Conway, Cisco’s Chief Security Officer for its Global Value Chain. The award was for her expertise in supply chain security and her contribution as Vice-Chair of The Open Group Trusted Technology Forum for the past five years.
