Austin, TX, 28th April - 1st May 2003

Agenda


In Austin the Architecture Forum will host or be involved in a variety of meetings:

  • On Monday, 28th April, it will participate in two open plenaries involving all The Open Group Forums and work areas:
  • In the afternoon of Tuesday, 29th April, it will host a public Architecture Briefing, containing presentations on key issues in the field of Enterprise Architecture, and explaining the goals and work objectives of the Forum in detail.
  • In the afternoon of Wednesday 30th April the Architecture Forum will host an Architecture Workshop for All Forums, to enable other Forums and works areas to report back on progress made on Boundaryless Information Flow Architecture.
  • On Thursday 1st May the Architecture Forum will host a members-only workshop, to enable members of the Forum to report back on the developments within other Forums and groups that are relevant to the Architecture Forum, and to develop plans for integration of that work into TOGAF.
  • Throughout the rest of the meeting, the members of the Forum will participate in breakout sessions with a number of other Forums and working groups, with a view to supporting the use of TOGAF in their ongoing work to elaborate the Boundaryless Information Flow Reference Model.

Boundaryless Information Flow: Open Plenary / Joint Working Session
Monday 28th April 2003


The Open Plenary on Monday morning will provide each Forum and work area, including the Architecture Forum, an opportunity to present its vision, goals, and current work objectives, and to demonstrate how they support the Boundaryless Information Flow vision, both to other members of The Open Group and to the IT industry at large.

In the afternoon, there will be a joint working plenary, to:

  • Receive an update on the work by Eliot Solomon and Terry Blevins on a generic architecture for Boundaryless Information Flow, which has been conducted initially within the Security Forum and Architecture Forum, taking forward Eliot's presentation from the Burlingame plenary.
  • Receive an update on how the Architecture Forum intends to capture the results of this work, and its application in the various forums of The Open Group, within TOGAF.
  • Conduct an initial working session on the practical application of these concepts to a particular work area.

Public Architecture Briefing
Introduction to the Architecture Forum
Tuesday 29th April  2003


Overview

This practical half-day Briefing will review the work of the Architecture Forum with particular focus on three fields - an effective architecture framework; an effective IT Architceture practice, and effective tools for architecture.

In particular:

  • You will receive a briefing on the new "Enterprise Edition" of The Open Group Architecture Framework, TOGAF, Version 8.
  • You will hear presentations on leading developments in the Architecture field from practitioners in both the customer and vendor communities.
  • You will network with leading architecture experts, vendors, and peers.
