I was honored to host and attend the inaugural Member Meeting of The Open Group SOSA Consortium in Oakland, CA in November of 2017. Since then, there has been tremendous growth in membership from a broad group of Government and Industry organizations, as well as Academia. With rapid growth came even greater collaboration, and I’m thrilled that Members have come together to develop not just the SOSA Technical Standard, but the all-important business and acquisition guidance to accompany it.
All this, while building support at the highest levels of the DoD customer base, the best example being the Tri-Service Acquisition memorandum, signed by the Secretaries of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, directing that Modular Open Systems standards should be included in all future requirements. On behalf of the rest of The Open Group Membership, and our staff, I congratulate you all on your work to date, and offer our continued support in this inaugural SOSA Newsletter. The newsletter provides us a platform to come together, as one open community, to share and discuss leading ideas and innovations that help shape the future. It will provide a wealth of information for Members, and I encourage all of you to contribute to future versions to enhance the value of not just your, but everyone’s, membership. Wishing you all a Happy New Year, and the very best of success as you move to publish Edition 1.0 of the SOSA Technical Standard, launch the SOSA Conformance Program in 2021, and continue the drive to broad market adoption.
