The Open Group SOSA™ Consortium Marketing Guidelines

Please pass this information to your Marketing Communications personnel, or your Public Affairs or Outreach Liaison, so they have the tools to properly promote your SOSA membership.

**FOR USE ONLY BY ACTIVE MEMBERS OF THE OPEN GROUP SOSA CONSORTIUM**

Welcome to The Open Group Sensor Open Systems Architecture™ (SOSA) Consortium.

As a Member of the SOSA™ Consortium, your membership represents an opportunity to promote your company’s products and services that are aligned with the SOSA Technical Standard.

The SOSA Consortium Outreach Subcommittee has developed this document as a guide to properly promote your SOSA membership and to promote the SOSA Approach (business and technical strategies) and SOSA Consortium.

About the SOSA Outreach Subcommittee

The recently formed SOSA Consortium Outreach Subcommittee is chartered with promoting the SOSA Approach (business and technical strategies) and to advancing the SOSA Consortium. It shall advise and support consortium Members in promoting the consortium and the technical standard. It shall also review and assure the accuracy and consistency of marketing materials.

The Outreach Subcommittee collaborates with The Open Group marketing and events personnel and serves as a creative resource group for ideas pertaining to public relations, marketing, and other promotional activities. It advises Members on the implementation of the following products and services, as needed:

•    Promotional materials and templates (e.g., tri-fold flyer, posters, show signage)
•    Social media engagement locations and messaging; primarily The Open Group Blog, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
•    Website content, both public and internal
•    Events – coordination of exhibits, speakers, and presentations
•    Media Alerts/Press Releases and news articles
•    Any other promotional activities as required

How to Participate

As of August 2020, The Outreach Subcommittee Lead is Valerie Andrew of Elma Electronic and the Co-Lead is Gina Peter of Mercury. The Subcommittee holds bi-weekly conference calls on Tuesdays at 3:00 p.m. ET to discuss upcoming events and activities. The subcommittee also meets during the regularly scheduled SOSA F2F (or virtual) meetings which occur every other month.

The Subcommittee is looking for Members to assist in the following areas:
•    Graphic design
•    Video creation and production
•    Media relations activities
•    Events planning and participation
•    Social Media

If you are willing and able to volunteer, please contact Reggie Hammond (r.hammond@opengroup.org)

Participation in the Outreach Subcommittee is open to all Members and is voluntary. We are creating a contact list for our Members so that we can provide you with additional information and communicate important SOSA marketing-related announcements your company can participate in as it becomes available.

There are two ways to get on the distribution list:

  1.  Become a fully onboarded participant in the SOSA Consortium. This is required and it gives you access to the online data system. Once you’re onboarded, you can request to join the Business Working Group Outreach Subcommittee (BWG Outreach).
  2.  Contact ogsosa-admin@opengroup.us. with your contact information so that we can put you on the distribution list

The SOSA Consortium is one of two consortia within The Open Group, and the other is FACE™ (Future Airborne Capability Environment). The Open Group provides administrative and marketing support and event management for the SOSA Consortium. The Open Group is available to review and comment on any press releases /media alerts that are related to SOSA in confidentiality prior to release. Please feel free to contact Reggie Hammond (r.hammond@opengroup.org) if you have a release to review. We highly recommend taking advantage of this service to ensure the highest level of brand integrity possible.

Branding & Logo Guidelines

Branding is extremely important for a consistent and impactful program. To that end, the SOSA Consortium, under The Open Group, has developed a Trademark and Copyright Guidelines document for your reference. Please refer to that document in developing your messaging and materials.
General usage rules:

  1. The first reference should always be: The Open Group Sensor Open Systems Architecture™
  2. The first use of the acronym SOSA must always have the trademark – “SOSA™“.  Do not use (SOSA™) – the trademark within parentheses.
  3. The SOSA logos, with and without tagline, and SOSA Member logo are permitted to indicate membership for Members only (pictured below) and can be used in marketing collateral, but not directly associated with products. They can be downloaded from the SOSA Members Marketing Materials folder (you must be logged into Plato for access). Use examples:
  • Web page or collateral listing trade association memberships: standard SOSA logo, with or without tagline
  • Collateral for products & services aligned with SOSA: SOSA member logo (just not near/next to product, which implies conformance/compliance)

Since the conformance process is still being defined, no conformance to the standard can yet be claimed. No licensing will be possible until the conformance process is defined and publicly released. Considering this, the SOSA logo cannot be used in association with a product.

Until the conformance process is complete, the proper language is:
” …developed in alignment with the SOSA™ Technical Standard”
“…aligned with the SOSA™ Technical Standard”
If you are in doubt, please reach out to The Open Group (ogsosa-admin@opengroup.us)
