This FAQ is to help explain the Create User feature within the Sophocles Mail Manager .

What is Create User for ?

Create User is a List Maintainer feature that allows a new user to be added to the Sophocles database.

What should I check before running Create User ?

It is wise to search for a user before adding one , since a record may already exist, and duplicate email addresses are not accepted.

What is the Alias ?

The alias is used as a userid for web access.

By convention, the Alias for a new user should be first_initial.last_name, for example a.brown. However, if the system prompts with a clash of alias, then either: a) the user may already exist and have been entered by another person, or b) there is a genuine clash. In the case of b), you need to select an Alias such as first_name.last_name, for example allen.brown. There are no general restrictions on the Alias used.
