London 2016: Proceedings - ArchiMate Forum

ArchiMate® Forum Members' Meetings

Monday, April 25

Objective of Meeting

The main goal of the meeting was to discuss the topics that matter to the Forum and to follow up on the different activities under development by the working groups. The meeting also covered the actions and important decisions about the update of the ArchiMate® ecosystem due to the release of the new version, specifically for the Certification Program update. There was also a presentation and review of the new version of ArchiMate marketing plan.

Summary

The ArchiMate Coronado project report was presented. The standard had been submitted for final Board approval. The Company Review process ended on April 19.

Actions have been taken up by the Forum and with The Open Group Certification team to update the ArchiMate® Certification Program (People and Tools) to comply with the new version of the standard.

Antoine Lonjon delivered his report as OMG-Open Group liaison representative and reported the activities that the OMG is proposing about the MOF-UML profile development for the ArchiMate standard. Members expressed their concerns about the need to pursue a better collaboration between the two organizations and the members of the ArchiMate Forum. Actions will be taken to overcome this situation.

The ArchiMate Exchange File Format – the roadmap and next steps to update the standard to comply with the new version of the language standard were presented. It is proposed that compliance with the Exchange File Format will be required as an indicator of compliance to strength the Tools Certification Program, so actions are planned to achieve that. These include funding Phil Beauvoir’s participation in the Exchange File Format project to revise that standard, funding an updated Archi plugin
for the format, as well possibly development of a model checker to support the certification.

An outline was presented on updating the Archi tool to support the next version of the ArchiMate standard. The availability of an open source tool in the market is important to support the usage of the standard, and there are many users of that tool. It was agreed to brief this activity in further detail to the members in a separate call.

The Capability-Based Planning white paperis a joint activity between the Architecture and ArchiMate Forums. The roadmap and approach for the project was presented. The white paper will be published in July in time to be used as part of the promotion for the new release of the standard in North America. The white paper is being updated so the models will use the ArchiMate features.

The marketing activities for the launch of the new version were discussed. It will be a series of activities starting with an Internet launch and webinars besides the official release in June. Other activities for Austin and Paris have also been defined.

An update was delivered on the certification numbers and member activity statistics.

There was some discussion about the Forum Marketing activities, and the marketing plan was explained.

In any other business the continuity of the Harmonization activities was mentioned, to align the new version of the ArchiMate standard with the TOGAF® standard and other standards such as IT4IT.
