As one of the newest participants from a member organization, let this be your starting point to introduce you to the future of open standards through collaboration with other members.

 

The Open Group is a global consortium that enables achievements for:

  • • Organizations using technology to do things better, faster, and cheaper
  • • Suppliers of technology products and services to gain business benefit
  • • Individual participants to develop their skills and capabilities of business objectives through technology standards

Participation in Forum activities provides opportunities to exchange ideas, expertise, and lessons learned with leaders and staff of other organizations like yours---both in person and online.

  • • A direct connection to peers, consultants, and industry partners through The Open Group Forums and Work Groups
  • • Access to member-only discussion groups in a variety of topics, where you and your team can seek practical answers and solutions from peers who have faced similar challenges

Individuals from member organizations are welcome to participate within any of the Forum(s) or Work Groups that their companies are members of. Forums are where you will work with other industry leaders to develop, maintain and discuss new and exciting opportunities and standards. The intention is to provide Boundaryless Information Flow™ between organizations to harvest advancement in the industries they represent. 

Member Contribution Drives Business Value:

  • Members set the agendas in Forums and determine with the Forum Officers, the direction of the Forum/ Work Group
  • Members contribute industry knowledge, best practices, knowledge of existing relevant standards, and expertise
  • Members write and develop publishable material and standards

The Open Group Facilitates Group Activity and Standards Development:

  • The Open Group provides group facilitation, IT infrastructure, and the legal umbrella required for competitors to collaborate
  • The Open Group Standards and Consensus Processes govern rules on contributions, consensus development and approval of standards
  • The Open Group supports our Members to solve shared problems

Participation in The Open Group Forums and Work Groups is governed by The Open Group Standards Process and the respective charter, policy, and/or procedures (if any) of the relevant Forum or Work Group.

The Standards Process defines the procedures for key tasks within The Open Group Standards development activities. The following Standards Process guidance handbooks are available:

The Open Group has an extensive network of liaison agreements with other standards bodies:

  • Liaisons with external organizations facilitate cooperation, adoption, and re-use of standards
  • We have a simple process for adding new liaisons as needed

Membership Terms of The Open Group 

Members of The Open Group all agree to the same set of membership terms. These terms describe each member's obligation with respect to intellectual property, confidentiality, and the standards process used by The Open Group. We encourage all members to review and understand the membership terms and standards process. 

In additional, we also have a Code of Conduct which applies to all meetings of The Open Group Forums and Work Groups, whether physical or virtual. We encourage all member to review and understand the code of conduct.
