New Version Includes Projects Completed in 2009 and Updated Material on Practical Implementations of SOA for Enterprise Architects
SAN FRANCISCO, April 6, 2010 – The Open Group today announced the immediate availability of the second edition of its SOA Source Book, a practical guide that addresses how enterprise architects can use service-oriented architecture (SOA) to deliver unified business and IT architectures for their organizations. Written in conjunction with members of The Open Group’s SOA Work Group by Dr. Chris Harding, forum director of the SOA Work Group, the book offers a pragmatic approach for creating service-oriented enterprise architectures based on industry best practices. The first edition, published in April 2009, was derived from SOA Work Group projects through 2008. The second edition will include results of the group's work in 2009.
The Open Group published two major SOA standards during 2009, the Service Integration Maturity Model and the SOA Governance Framework. The Open Group also collaborated with members of the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) and the Object Management Group (OMG) to publish a whitepaper explaining the open SOA standards produced by the three organizations, and describing how they relate to each other. The new edition of the SOA Source Book includes these publications in full, together with material updated from the first edition on SOA and enterprise architecture, SOA and TOGAF™, The Open Group SOA Reference Architecture and service-oriented infrastructure.
In addition, the SOA Work Group is continuing to develop several resources, including the SOA Reference Architecture, Practical Guide to using TOGAF for SOA, Service-Oriented Infrastructure Framework, Guide to SOA Security and Guide to Legacy Evolution to SOA. This ongoing work will be incorporated in the Source Book over time, further increasing the value of the SOA Source Book as a major body of free-to-use reference material for SOA.
