How can I achieve certification?
You first need to decide the level you would like to study for, and then after a period of study, attending a training course or by self-study, take the applicable examinations. After passing the examination(s) you are invited to enter into a trademark license agreement to complete the certification (see The Open Group Certification for People: Certification Policy for Examination-Based Programs).
What is the difference between accredited and non-accredited training?
Accredited training course providers are subject to an assessment both of the course and also their personnel and organization. In addition all accredited trainers include in their course fee the examination, either on site as part of the course or a voucher to attend a public test center. Some Accredited trainers also have permission to distribute official materials, such as the official pdf copy of the standard with their course materials.
What are the available certifications?
- ArchiMate 3 Foundation: provides validation that the Candidate has gained knowledge of the notation, terminology, structure, and basic concepts of the ArchiMate modeling language.
- ArchiMate 3 Practitioner: provides validation that in addition to the knowledge of the notation, terminology, structure, and concepts of the ArchiMate modeling language, the candidate has the capability to use the language.
How do the certifications relate to the Part 1, and Part 2 exams?
The exams are what you need to pass to reach a certification qualification.
What is the retake policy if i fail an Examination?
Candidates who fail an examination are not allowed to retake ANY ArchiMate examination again for a period of one (1) month. A result received before one month will be VOID.
How can I find out about the syllabus and examinations?

There are three examinations as follows:
ArchiMate 3 Part 1 - Pass mark 60% (24 or more points out of a maximum of 40)
This exam comprises 40 questions in simple multiple choice format, covering the Level 1 learning outcomes (see the Conformance Requirements for detail). Each correct answer scores a single point.
ArchiMate 3 Part 2 - Pass mark 65% (26 or more points out of a maximum of 40)
This exam comprises 8 complex scenario questions, with gradient scoring. This exam is open book. The correct answer scores 5 points, the second best answer 3 points, the third best answer 1 point. The distracter scores zero points.
What are the eligibility requirements for the Exams?
The following sections detail the eligibility requirements. Note that ineligible candidates will be disqualified from the exam and no fees refunded.
ArchIMate 3 Part 1 exam
There are no prerequisites. Any and all candidates are thus eligible to take this examination.
ArchiMate 3 Part 2 exam
A candidate must be certified to ArchiMate 3 Foundation or have achieved a pass result for the ArchiMate 9 Part 1 examination on the same day at the same exam provider as they are taking the Part 2 examination.
If I fail can I retake an exam immediately?
No, the certification policy has a minimum period before you can retake an examination. This is currently one month. If you retake before that period your test result will be void. This applies to all ArchiMate examinations.
How can I find a training course?
You can find an available accredited training course either by contacting a provider using the register link . Click on the course name entry and the detailed page should give you a web link to the company that offers the course. As part of the package of attending the qualifying course, the training organization may offer facilities to take the examination, or may supply vouchers for you to take the examination at an authorized examination center.

If you attend an accredited course then the examination may be given as part of the course (check with your course provider), otherwise you can attend a test center.

Certification is included in the exam fees. Certification exams are priced according to currency values in specific countries and regions (link to exam fees).
