Inspur Adopts UNIX® 03 Standard in China

Cloud Computing Platform Provider Turns to UNIX for Assuring Customers Server Stability and Application Availability

SAN FRANCISCO, March 26, 2013 – The Open Group today announced that Inspur, the leading provider of Cloud Computing solutions in China, became the first Chinese company to have a product certified to The Open Group UNIX 03 standard. UNIX 03 is the industry recognized mark for the leading open operating environments that conform to the Single UNIX Specification, Version 3, which has been adopted by leading organizations worldwide, including Apple, Inc., Fujitsu, HP, IBM and Oracle.

Inspur has built leading Cloud Computing platforms for clients in government, finance and telecommunications for more than 16 years. Based on the high demand for server stability and application availability, the company turned to UNIX, which is known for its proven reliability in regards to servers. The company developed a proprietary operating system that was designed to conform to the UNIX 03 standard and be used with high-end servers. Since becoming certified, Inspur customers have seen greater availability and have been able to migrate applications with greater ease.

“We are seeing organizations, not only in China but also across the world, demand better stability and availability for Cloud-based applications,” said Zhang Dong, system software director, Inspur. “The Open Group UNIX O3 standard has allowed us to better meet increased customer demand for application availability and portability, and cement our place as the leading provider of Cloud Computing solutions in China.”

“High reliability, availability and scalability are all attributes associated with certified UNIX systems,” said Andrew Josey, director of the UNIX Program, The Open Group. “By registering this product as compliant with the Single UNIX Specification, Inspur is assuring users of its stability, application portability and interoperability with other UNIX systems.”

“The adoption of the Open Group UNIX certification by Inspur validates the traction that The Open Group has seen in China, as well as the entire Asia-Pacific region,” said Chris Forde, general manager Asia Pacific and VP Enterprise Architecture, The Open Group. “As organizations in other countries have quickly learned, conformance to open standards will enhance interoperability and improve information flow throughout organizations to increase efficiency and encourage innovation. We are confident that Inspur and its customers will realize similar benefits from the UNIX standard and are excited to continue to work closely with leading Chinese organizations to build our presence in the region.”

Since entering the market in 2009, The Open Group has experienced strong momentum in China. The organization has a formal presence in China through its partnership with The Open Group China. The Open Group currently has 18 members with headquarters in China.
