How long have you been involved with The Open Group SOSA™ Consortium?

I’ve been actively involved since 2019.

What do you do, and how long have you been doing it?

Fully supporting the NAVAIR PMA-209 Avionics Architecture Team, I serve to connect leaders, experts, influencers that drive open standards adoption. Of my 22+ years’ experience in business development and marketing, 19 of those were in Industry. A good portion of that time was managing all aspects producing more than 450 new product release events and sales-lead generation engagements in the semiconductor and embedded computing spaces. Those events resulted in connecting thousands of decision-authorities and leaders from some of the largest technology companies such as: Intel, Microsoft, ARM, AMD and more.

Why did your organization become a Member of The Open Group SOSA Consortium and what does/will your involvement look like?

The SOSA Consortium is a beneficial resource for NAVAIR’s Mission Statement: Deliver integrated air warfare capabilities to enable the fleet to compete, deter and win – tonight, tomorrow and in the future. CAPT Margaret Wilson, Program Manager states, “At PMA-209, we provide the warfighter the effective air combat electronics that serve a vital role in platforms we use to fight and win.” Several of the AAT are a part of the SOSA Consortium Business and Technical working groups. I contribute on the Business Working Group and Outreach.

How has/will membership in The Open Group SOSA Consortium benefit you, your organization, and the industry at large?

Membership provides a conduit for collaboration with a myriad of member organizations and participants that assists in furthering goals of PMA-209. PMA-209 is NAVAIR’s executive agent for the development and management of innovative air combat electronics systems. It is responsible for providing critical capabilities to the warfighter in the form of common, fully developed, supportable, and reliable systems that align with the strategic and operational requirements of our platform PEO/PMA customers.

What contributions do you hope to bring to The Open Group SOSA Consortium ?

An investment of time and effort to help achieve more rapid advancement of open standards and achievements.

Why is it important for other organizations to join The Open Group SOSA Consortium?

“The PMA-209 Avionics Architecture Team is thrilled to witness the release of the Sensor Open Standards Architecture™ (SOSA) Technical Standard 1.0. This important work now available not only benefits the entire open architecture community, it also supports NAVAIR’s efforts to increase the speed of acquisitions to the Fleet”, stated LCDR Whitesell, PMA-209 AAT IPT Team Co-lead. “This new, eagerly awaited technical standard enables the possibility of enterprise-wide reusable components, reduced total ownership costs, and products that can be quickly customized, modified, and extended throughout product life cycles in response to changing user requirements. We applaud the tireless efforts of the SOSA Consortium members and look forward to many more successes in the future.”
