The Open Group Launches the TOGAF® Standard, Version 9.2

The TOGAF Standard updated with further emphasis on Business Architecture, and restructured to support the TOGAF Library

London, UK – April 16, 2018: The Open Group, the vendor-neutral technology consortium, has today launched the TOGAF® Standard, Version 9.2, a standard of The Open Group. Developed by The Open Group Architecture Forum, this is the first major update to the TOGAF standard since the TOGAF Standard, Version 9.1 was published in December 2011.

The TOGAF Standard has further emphasis on Business Architecture, Digital Trends, and Business Transformation beyond IT.  The standard has been redesigned and restructured to sit at the center of the newly introduced TOGAF Library.

The TOGAF Library is a reference library containing guidelines, templates, patterns, and other forms of reference material to accelerate the creation of new architectures for the enterprise.  It contains over 130 resources to support practical application of the TOGAF framework.

Steve Nunn, President and CEO of The Open Group, notes, “Version 9.1 of the TOGAF standard is as widely adopted as it has become because it is, essentially, fit for purpose. However, more detail on how to implement the standard is what the market has been asking for. So, in direct response to practitioner feedback, we have taken the opportunity to improve the level of guidance and the document structure, as well as correct errors, and remove obsolete content. At the same time, we have made some key enhancements in the TOGAF Standard, Version 9.2 in the Business Architecture, the Content Metamodel, and support for the TOGAF Library. We believe that these will all be welcome additions to the TOGAF Body of Knowledge."

Andrew Josey, VP Standards and Certification, The Open Group states, “The Business Architecture is supplemented with titles in the TOGAF Library, including guides on Business Capabilities and Value Streams. Security Architecture is enhanced with a guide in the TOGAF Library, providing detailed guidance on how to integrate risk and security into a TOGAF Enterprise Architecture, including a detailed mapping on using the TOGAF framework together with the SABSA framework.”

“The TOGAF Standard, Version 9.2 brings significant advancements in Business Architecture in support of the Enterprise Architect responding to strategic business imperatives, tied to a rich and growing body of guides that put the framework into action,” says Bryan Lail, The Open Group Business Architecture Workstream Lead, Raytheon Company.

The new version of the standard is supported by a number of TOGAF Series Guides, including:

  • TOGAF Series Guide: The TOGAF Leader’s Guide to Establishing and Evolving an EA Capability
  • TOGAF Series Guide: A Practitioners’ Approach to Developing Enterprise Architecture Following the TOGAF ADM

The TOGAF Series Guides can be found in the TOGAF Library: www.opengroup.org/togaf-library

The TOGAF Standard, Version 9.2 and the TOGAF Standard, Version 9.2 Pocket Guide will be available in hardcopy beginning April 16, 2018 from Van Haren Publishing. It will also be available for download and to read online at The Open Group website. More detailed information about the update to the TOGAF standard and the additional content in the TOGAF Library will be discussed at the TOGAF User Group Meeting on April 18 at The Open Group London Event.
