Ottawa 2017: Proceedings - Open Platform 3.0™ Forum

Open Platform 3.0™ Forum

Wednesday, July 19, 2017

Objective of Meeting

The purpose of the meeting was to progress the work of the Open Platform 3.0 Forum, particularly in the areas of Business Data Lakes, Metadata, and Executable Standards.

Summary

The meeting followed conference tracks including presentations on the Open Business Data Lake (O-BDL) standard and on the Apache Atlas metadata management system. It discussed the management and use of metadata for data lakes.

The meeting included a joint session with the Architecture Forum at which the Forum's perspective on Information Architecture was discussed.

Conference discussions outside the meeting included discussion of a draft executable standard illustrating the value and application of the Open Data Format (O-DF), Open Messaging Interface (O-MI), and Open Data Element Framework (O-DEF) standards.

Outputs

The meeting resulted in a better understanding of the role of metadata in relation to data lakes. The discussions also led to a better understanding of executable standards for Open Platform 3.0.

Next Steps

The Forum will further explore the use of Apache Atlas for data lake metadata, and investigate the use in such a configuration of metadata that conforms to the O-DEF standard.

The draft executable standard will be finalized and published.
