The Open Group Credentials: TOGAF Essentials 2018

TOGAF® Essentials 2018

This is an Up-to-date Knowledge certification credential. It demonstrates that knowledge of the TOGAF standard is up-to-date. It is required for all trainers of accredited TOGAF 9 Training Courses.

Individuals who achieved TOGAF 9 Certification can demonstrate their knowledge of the changes introduced with 9.2 with the TOGAF Essentials 2018 credential - a 3-hour course. This credential leads to an Open Badge to indicate that an individual has knowledge and understanding of the changes introduced to the TOGAF Body of Knowledge in 2018, including the TOGAF Standard, Version 9.2 and the TOGAF Library. In addition as of April 2019, individuals earning this badge  also qualify for the TOGAF Standard, Version 9.2 Open Badge.

Q. What is the target audience for the TOGAF Essentials 2018 credential?
A. This credential is required for trainers to be authorized to deliver Accredited Training Courses based on the TOGAF Standard, Version 9.2. It is also targeted at individuals who want to show they have up-to-date knowledge of the TOGAF Standard, Version 9.2 and the TOGAF Body of Knowledge.

Q. What is required to earn the TOGAF Essentials 2018 credential?
A. To be eligible for the credential individuals are required to be TOGAF 9 Certified (TOGAF 9 Level 2). They need to attend an accredited TOGAF Essentials 2018 course to complete the mandatory three hours of training. After completion of training, they need to pass a lightweight internet-based assessment -- the TOGAF Essentials 2018 Assessment.

Q. Can I self-study for the TOGAF Essentials 2018 credential?
A. No, the conformance requirements state that three hours of mandatory training are required. This can only be obtained by attending an accredited training course, which includes bundling of entry into the online assessment. There are a number of delivery options available from training course providers including e-learning, videos, webinars, as well as face-to-face training.

Q. How do I take the assessment after completing my training?
A. The assessment for TOGAF Essentials 2018 is internet based, and accredited training course providers submit your details to The Open Group, who will then send an email invitation for you to take the online assessment.

Q. If I become TOGAF 9 Certified after attending a 9.2 based accredited course, do I still need to attend a TOGAF Essentials 2018 accredited course in order to take the assessment and obtain the TOGAF Essentials 2018 Open Badge?
A. If you are attending an accredited TOGAF Version 9.2 course,  you will qualify for the TOGAF Standard, Version 9.2 Open Badge.  If you want to in addition obtain the TOGAF Essentials 2018 Open Badge then you need to attend a course, since only an accredited TOGAF Essentials 2018 course meets the requirements. It covers a separate syllabus to that of TOGAF 9 Certified, with the credential focussing on the 2018 changes in detail and the Body of Knowledge. Please note that the TOGAF Essentials 2018 credential is required for trainers of accredited TOGAF 9 training courses.

Q. Can I obtain practice questions for TOGAF Essentials 2018?
A. The practice questions are made available as an online PRACTICE assessment. The purpose of this is twofold, to allow a candidate to practice for the live assessment and also to test their browser setup is suitable for the assessment. Unlimited retakes are permitted for failed PRACTICE assessments.

Q. What is the format of the Online Assessment?
A. It is 20 questions, simple multiple choice, open book assessment with a time limit of 30 minutes.

Q. Is there a URL to access the TOGAF Essentials 2018 Online Assessment?
A. Invitations to take the assessment are issued by The Open Group to candidates submitted by their training course provider after satisfactory completion of the course. Each invitation is unique for the candidate.

Q. Do I need to register to take the Assessment?
A. No, your training course provider will submit your details to The Open Group, who will then issue an invitation to take the assessment.

Q. My trainer has asked me for my Candidate ID. How do I find that?
A. There are two ways to find this.:

Select the "Goto Pearson VUE" link on the Take Exam page at https://certification.opengroup.org/take-exam. The summary page shown will include your Candidate ID in the Personal Information.

Alternatively, log in to your TOGAF 9 Certification account at https://togaf9-cert.opengroup.org, and select View/Edit my Certification Record. The Candidate ID is at the top of the Certification Information. Please note that your Certification ID (CID) is not a Candidate ID.

Q. When and where can I take the Assessment?
A. You will be sent an invitation to take the assessment by email. You can take the assessment at a time and location of your choosing.

Q. I did not receive my invitation to the assessment. What should I do?
A. Ensure that your spam filters do not block email from donotreply@brillium.com. If you need the invitation to be resent please contact badges(at)opengroup.org

Q. Can I access the course handouts and other materials when taking the Assessment?
A. Yes, the Assessment is not proctored and is Open Book. You are encouraged to access notes and course handouts while taking the assessment.

Q. Can I buy a voucher to take the online assessment?
A. No, entry to the online assessment is only included as part of an Accredited Training Course.

Q.What if I fail the assessment?
A. The system will allow two retakes automatically. If you fail three times and want a retake an administration fee is due.

Q. What are the system requirements to take the assessment?
A. In order to take the assessment, you should ensure that Javascript, popups, cookies, and SSL are all enabled within your chosen Web browser. Supported browsers include recent versions of Google Chrome, Apple Safari,  Microsoft Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Edge. Please note that Mozilla Firefox is not currently supported.

Frequently Asked Questions and Answers about the Assessment for Training Course Providers

Q. How do I submit candidates to take the Assessment? Do I need to purchase vouchers?
A. Accredited Training Course provider submit the list of candidates who will be taking the assessment using this template.
The Assessment does not require vouchers, the nominated candidates are invited to take it by The Open Group once the list is received. The $100 individual assessment fee (per candidate) is to be paid via our online shop.

Q. How long will it take for a student to receive the invitation?
A. Accredited Training course providers submit candidates to The Open Group. Once payment is received and the list of candidate IDs validated, candidate details are loaded to the assessment system within 3 business days.
Candidates will then receive an invitation to a practice assessment. Once they pass the practice assessment they will receive an invitation for the live assessment usually within 1 business day.

Q. How long are the invitations valid for?
A. The assessment invitations are valid for at least 60 days.

Q. In case a student fails the assessment, can he/she retake it for free?
A. Yes, two free retakes are available for the live assessment. If a student fails three times, then one additional retake can be obtained for an administration fee.

Q. After a student completes the assessment, how long does it take The Open Group to notify the student for his/her credential?
A. The assessment system displays the results immediately. The credential badge is issued within 6 working days (badges are issued once per week)

Q. Is there a Practice test provided for my candidates?
A. Yes, access is provided with the Online Assessment.
